RENO, Nev. -Â Nevada sophomore guard
Grant Sherfield was honored once again for his performance over the 2020-21 campaign, being named to the USBWA All-District VIII Team Tuesday.
Earlier Tuesday, Sherfield was voted to the NABC All-District 17 First Team, and last week was named Mountain West Newcomer of the Year and to the All-Mountain West First Team.
The USBWA's District VIII comprises Division I schools in the states of Nevada, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming.
Nationally, Sherfield ranks eighth in total assists, 10th in free throws made (130), and 11th in assists per game through March 15.
He paces the Mountain West in assists (158 total and 6.08 apg) and steals (42 total and 1.62 per game), while finishing second in scoring (18.6 ppg) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.16), and third in free-throw percentage (85.5 percent). He was also in the conference's top 10 in field-goal percentage (43.3 percent, eighth).
He posted 12 20-point games this season, with 15 performances of at least six assists.
Sherfield also became Nevada's man in the clutch this season, hitting three game-winning shots this season. Key buckets in the final seconds from Sherfield carried the Pack to wins over Nebraska (69-66) on Nov. 26, Boise State (74-72) on Feb. 5, and Colorado State (85-82) on March 5.
Nevada finished the 2020-21 season with a 16-10 record, reaching the semifinals of the 2021 Air Force Reserve Mountain West Championship.
