Satchel Benn closed out a three-set victory Friday to clinch the winning point and deliver Nevada a 4-3 victory over New Mexico State on the first day of the Golden State Invitational in Sacramento.
Benn's 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 victory over Gijs Akkermans broke the 3-3 deadlock and improved the Pack's 2021 record to 2-3.
Nevada continues action in Sacramento Saturday at 10 a.m., taking on San Francisco.
The Pack captured the doubles point to open the dual, with Benn again having a hand. The freshman teamed with fellow first-year
Loris Zisswiller to defeat New Mexico State's Louis Menard and Petr Stavrovskij, 7-6, in the third and final match.
In singles, the teams traded victories all the way down to the wire, where Benn closed it out at No. 6.
