Pack drops series at Utah State

LOGAN, Utah – Nevada couldn't recover from a second-straight slow start at Utah State Sunday, falling behind by 16 at halftime and dropping an 87-66 decision in the series finale.

The Pack (14-9, 9-7 MW) will play its regular-season finale Friday at Lawlor Events Center, hosting Colorado State for a 6 p.m. tip.

Just like in Friday's opener, Nevada went into the locker room at the break trailing by 16, this time in a 39-23 hole. But unlike Friday night, there would not be a furious comeback down to the wire, as Utah State (16-7, 13-4 MW) ensured there would be little drama.

Nevada got as close as 11 after consecutive triples from Tré Coleman and Desmond Cambridge, Jr. made it 42-31 three minutes into the second half, forcing a Utah State timeout. It was 46-35 with 16:21 to play before a 15-3 Aggie put the Pack into a 23-point hole at 61-38 with just over 10 minutes remaining.

Coleman made a career-best four 3-pointers in the game, finishing with 12 points. Cambridge, Jr. led the Pack with 13 points, while Warren Washington (12) and Kane Milling (11) were also in double digits.

Nevada was set back by 13 turnovers over the opening 20 minutes, leading to 12 Aggie points. Neemias Queta had 12 points and eight rebounds by halftime, on his way to finishing with a double-double of 26 and 13. Justin Bean also had a double-double, finishing with 17 points and 13 rebounds.

The Pack fell behind 8-2 to start before Coleman's consecutive 3-pointers evened it up at 8-8 five minutes in. But Utah State would score the next 11 points, four coming from Queta, to take a 19-8 lead.

Coleman again helped bring the Pack back into it, hitting his third triple of the game to cap an 8-2 run which cut the deficit to nine with five and a half minutes to go in the half. But Queta would again add four points to an Agguie run as Utah State outscored Nevada, 12-5, to close the half.
