RENO, Nev. – The University of Nevada softball team's
Kendall Fritz has been named Mountain West Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday. It's the sophomore's first weekly honor of her career. In addition, Fritz has been named Wolf Pack Student-Athlete of the Week.
"This is a much-deserved award for Kendall," said Nevada head coach
Josh Taylor. "Week in and week out, she continues to provide us with quality starts. Her mentality in the circle is second to none, and I look forward to watching her pitch at Nevada for years to come."
The Frisco, Texas, native starred in the circle for the Pack during the NorCal Kickoff. On Feb. 11, Fritz compiled an 11-strikeout performance in a 6-2 win over Saint Mary's. On Feb. 12, Fritz struck out six UC Davis hitters in Nevada's 4-3 win over UC Davis. Fritz also recorded the save in Nevada's 5-4 victory against the Aggies on Feb. 12 and pitched an inning in the Pack's 10-0 win over Sacramento State on Feb. 14, striking out two hitters. Fritz recorded two wins and a save over the weekend, moving her record to 2-0 on the season. Fritz has posted a 1.24 ERA and leads the Mountain West with 22 strikeouts in four games.
Fritz and the Wolf Pack take the field again on Feb. 19 against Washington and Dixie State. First pitch is slated for 11 a.m. (PST) in St. George, Utah.
