RENO, Nev. -Â Nevada (4-4) returns to action for the first time since Nov. 30, beginning a three-game home stand Wednesday night against Minnesota Duluth.
Wednesday's home-stand opener will be broadcast on Nevada Sports Net, with Alex Margulies and Keith Fuetsch on the call. Â The game will also be carried over the airwaves in Reno on ESPN Radio 94.5 FM and online through the Varsity Network app, with John Ramey and Len Stevens calling the action.
UP NEXT
The Wolf Pack continues its pre-holiday home stand Saturday night, hosting LMU at 8 p.m. on CBS Sports Network. The stand wraps Dec. 21, as the Pack hosts Grand Canyon in its regular-season non-conference finale.
SCOUTING UMD
The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) enters Wednesday's contest with a perfect 11-0 record on the year. The Bulldogs, a Division II program, have also started 5-0 in conference play, and average 87.2 points per game while shooting 53.4 percent from the field.
UMD boasts five players scoring in double figures on the season, led by Drew Blair (19.5 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 25 3-pointers), Austin Andrews (17.4 ppg, 9.9 rpg, 63.2 FG pct.), and Joshua Brown (14.2 ppg, 27 3-pointers).
LAST TIME OUT
Nevada outscored Pepperdine, 44-34, in the second half to capture its third-straight win with a 79-66 decision over the Waves back on Nov. 30.
For the third-straight game, each member of the Nevada guard combo of
Grant Sherfield and Desmond Cambridge Jr. scored at least 20 points, with Sherfield posting a 24-point, 10-assist double-double, and Cambridge Jr. going for 21 points with five 3-pointers.
Warren Washington was also in double figures, finishing with 13 points and eight rebounds.
GETTING BACK TO ACTION
Nevada will play its first games since Nov. 30's matchup with Pepperdine when it hosts UMD Wednesday night.
The Pack was scheduled to make a two-game road trip to the Dallas Metroplex area, visiting North Texas (Dec. 4) and UT Arlington (Dec. 7), but the games, and trip, were canceled due to COVID protocols within the Nevada program.
SHERFIELD, CAMBRIDGE JR. GOING FOR 20 (AGAIN)
The Nevada guard duo of
Grant Sherfield and Desmond Cambridge Jr. has been on fire over the Pack's current three-game winning streak, as each player has scored at least 20 points in each win of the run.
In the Pack's win over Pepperdine, Sherfield led the way with a 24-point, 10-assist double-double, while Cambridge Jr. poured in 21 points with five triples.
Over this winning streak, Sherfield has averaged 26.0 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 7.00 assists, while shooting 56.9 percent (29-for-51) from the field. Cambridge Jr., meanwhile, is averaging 21.0 points and 4.3 rebounds while shooting 49.0 percent (24-for-49) from the field over the run.
SHERFIELD ON TRIPLE-DOUBLE WATCH
Nov. 30 against Pepperdine, guard
Grant Sherfield came within two rebounds of Nevada's first triple-double in over 42 years, as he finished the contest with 24 points, 10 assists, and eight rebounds.
While the 24 points and 10 assists marked his third-career double-double (all of the points-assists variety), a triple-double would have been Nevada's first since Jan. 25, 1979, when Johnny High went for 15 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists against Southern Oregon.
