Nevada stretches win streak to six

RENO, Nev. - After a competitive first half, the Nevada women’s basketball team (7-3) regrouped and powered by Bushnell in the second half, grabbing a 80-42 win to push its win streak to six, the longest win streak of head coach Amanda Levens’ tenure. 

We came out with a lot of energy and focused on our execution in the second half. We came together. I’m proud of my team, and we’re excited to get back to work this coming week.

Four Wolf Pack players tallied double digit scoring performances. Senior Nia Alexander led the way, recording 14 points (7-for-12), six rebounds, four steals and three assists. Freshman Audrey Roden tallied 13 points, three rebounds and three steals. Senior Kylie Jimenez added to Nevada’s offensive punch, registering 12 points, a team-high five steals, and three assists. Da’Ja Hamilton also contributed to the Pack’s fire power after charting 11 points, five rebounds and two assists while shooting 3-for-6 from three. Sophomore Lexie Givens tied her career-high in rebounding after grabbing eight to go along with four points and one assist. Sophomore Kenna Holt led Nevada with four assists while chipping in three rebounds, two points and one steal. 

The Pack scored 33 points off 28 Bushnell turnovers. Nevada’s seven turnovers ties for third-fewest in program history.

The first two quarters remained competitive with Nevada securing a 34-26 lead. K. Jimenez had a hot hand in the second quarter’s final minutes, hitting back-to-back pull-up jumpers and then hitting a three to close the half. 

Nevada turned on the jets in the third quarter, outscoring Bushnell 20-9. Nevada found momentum at the four minute mark, pushing its lead into double digits on made free throws by Roden. Then, the Pack pushed its lead to 19 on made baskets by Alyssa Jimenez, Alexander, Holt and Roden. 

The Pack took advantage of a 54-35 lead heading into fourth. A Givens layup with 5:42 left gave Nevada a 21 point lead. Back-to-back threes by K. Jimenez and Hamilton pushed the lead 27 (67-40) at 4:13. The Pack continued to flourish on both ends for the remainder of the game, edging Bushnell 80-42 for the third largest-margin of victory in program history.

Nevada travels north to Seattle to partake in the Husky Invite on Dec. 19-20, facing Eastern Washington and Washington.
