Pack drops match at Wyoming

Laramie, Wyo. - The Nevada volleyball team dropped its match against the Wyoming Cowgirls on Saturday afternoon. The Cowgirls went up 2-0 with final scores of 25-22 and 25-17 to close the match in 3-0 after a victory in the third set with a score of 25-19. 

Senior Kyla Waiters led the Pack with 12 kills and a .211 hitting percentage. Waiters was followed by freshman Sia Liilii, who scored eight kills in the match. 

The senior was also the leader of the Pack in digs, recording 11 in the match. Waiters was followed by senior Kaila Spevak who recorded 10 total digs in the match. 

Junior Andrea Alcaraz led the team's assists with 27 followed by Spevak (3) in the match. 

The first set belonged to the Wyoming Cowgirls from the jump with the Cowgirls pulling ahead 8-2, forcing the Pack to call a timeout. Nevada was able to cut the margin to one point difference, but the Pack was not able to reverse the score. The Cowgirls continued on the lead and closed the set in 25-22. 

Nevada put up a fight at the beginning of the second set by going back and forth with Wyoming. The Cowgirls extended its lead after a five-score run. The Pack cut the margin at the 12-10 mark, but the Cowgirls continued its control of the set. Wyoming closed the set in 25-17 to go up 2-0.

The Pack took the lead in the third set with a two-score run, but the Cowgirls tied the game 2-2 and took the lead. Nevada was able to tie the game at nine, but Wyoming reacted with a two-score run to continue on the lead. The Pack was able to cut the margin to 20-18, but Wyoming closed the set in 25-19 and the match in 3-0.

The Nevada volleyball team will be back at the Virginia Street Gym to face the Boise State Broncos on Thursday, Nov. 11, and the Utah State Aggies on Saturday, Nov. 13 for senior night. The match will be live-streamed through the Mountain West Network and live stats are going to be on the Nevada Wolf Pack website.
