Nevada falls in series finale to Fresno State

FRESNO, Calif. – A strong fourth quarter from Fresno State propelled the Bulldogs past the Nevada women's basketball team by a final of 75-61 on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (6-5, 4-2 MW) were the top team in the first half, shooting nearly 60 percent after the opening quarter. Fresno State took that momentum into the second and staked an 11-point lead at halftime. The Bulldogs looked poised to continue to add to that double-digit lead, bumping it up to a 13-point advantage early in the third quarter.

The Wolf Pack (5-6, 1-5 MW) though posted its best quarter of the game in the third and began chopping away at the deficit. A quick 6-0 run by Nevada that lasted just over one minute, forced the Bulldogs to call a timeout and shrunk their lead to seven. The Wolf Pack defense was relentless coming out of the timeout, getting two steals and turning them into four points on the next two Fresno State possessions to make it a three-point game. Nevada continued the scoring onslaught on its next possession as a layup from LaPraisjah Johnson made it just a one-point game.

Nevada could not break through though to get ahead of the Bulldogs. The two teams traded buckets for the remainder of the third quarter and the Pack found itself down two heading into the fourth. The final quarter was all gas from Fresno State as it began to pull away from the Pack quickly and built up a double-digit lead once again with 6:04 remaining. All-in-all Fresno State outscored Nevada 23-11 in the final 10 minutes of play.

Nevada had three post points in double figures, led by a team-high 14 points from junior Da'Ja Hamilton. Johnson and junior Megan Ormiston each contributed 13 points. Freshman Kenna Holt led the Pack with a season-high seven rebounds.

Nevada returns to Lawlor Events Center next week for a two-game conference series against Wyoming scheduled for Friday and Sunday.
