RENO, Nev. - Nevada (8-5, 3-3 MW) returns home to Lawlor Events Center for the first time in almost a month, hosting Fresno State (5-3, 3-3 MW) for a two-game series.

The series opens Friday at 8 p.m. on FS1, with Daron Sutton and Doug Gottlieb calling the action. Both games of the series will also be broadcast in Reno on ESPN Radio 94.5 FM with John Ramey on the call.

UP NEXT
Nevada makes its third road trip since the post-holiday restart next week, heading to Laramie for its series at Wyoming.

The Pack will face the Cowboys Friday, Jan. 22 at 5 p.m. PT, with the finale set for a 1 p.m. tip Sunday, Jan. 24.

LAST TIME OUT
Nevada is coming off of a heart-breaking weekend at San Diego State, as the Pack suffered a pair of final-minute, and, in the case of the finale, last-second, defeats to the Aztecs.

Thursday's opener featured the Pack taking a 60-58 lead with two minutes to play before San Diego State ended the game on a 7-0 run to capture the 65-60 win. Saturday, Nevada stormed back from a nine-point deficit with five minutes remaining to tie the game, 67-67, on Grant Sherfield's 3-pointer with 4.6 seconds left. But San Diego State's Trey Pulliam got across midcourt on the inbounds and banked in a runner at the buzzer to deal the Pack the 69-67 setback.

Sophomore forward Grant Sherfield was a standout for the Pack over the weekend, posting a pair of 20-point games, averaging 21.0 points with 5.50 assists per game, and going 12-for-13 (92.3 percent) from the line.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Fresno State (5-3, 3-3 MW) comes to Reno on a three-game winning streak following a home sweep of San Jose State this past weekend.

The Bulldogs have come back to .500 after an 0-3 start to conference play, and are led by a pair of sophomores in Orlando Robinson (18.1 ppg, 10.6 rpg, 52.0 FG pct.) and Deon Stroud (13.9 ppg, 52.0 FG pct.)

SHERFIELD MAKING AN EARLY NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR CASE
The Mountain West has received quite the introduction to Nevada's sophomore point guard Grant Sherfield in 2020-21. Through his first six games of conference play, Sherfield, who was granted immediate eligibility in September after transferring from Wichita State, has scored 18.0 points with 6.17 assists per game, and four 20-point performances.

Among players who have played more than two conference games this season, Sherfield ranks third in the Mountain West in scoring (18.0) and ranks second in assists per game (6.17), while his 2.85 assist-to-turnover ratio is third-best. All three of those figures also rank first among Mountain West newcomers.

DYNAMIC DUO
Nevada can, in fact, make a strong claim to not only the Mountain West's top newcomer in sophomore point guard Grant Sherfield, but also to the conference's top newcomer duo, with redshirt junior guard Desmond Cambridge, Jr., a transfer from Brown, included.

Together, the Sherfield-Cambridge, Jr. combo accounts for just over half of Nevada's scoring offense in conference play, combining to score 35.3 of the Pack's 69.8 points per game (50.6 percent). The duo has made 51.1 percent of the Pack's field goals (70 of 137) and 70.7 percent of the team's 3-pointers (29 of 41).

Cambridge, Jr., leads the Mountain West with 18 3-pointers made in conference play, and ranks seventh in scoring (17.3 ppg). With Sherfield ranking fifth in conference-only scoring among all players (regardless of number of games played), Nevada is the only team to have two players in the Mountain West's scoring top 10.
