Sharts’ career outing not enough as Nevada falls to Hofstra

Doubleheader against Pride and Shockers tomorrow

RENO, Nev. – Sophomore Owen Sharts pitched a gem in Nevada's home opener, but the Wolf Pack (0-7) couldn't find much offense in a 2-1 loss to Hofstra (2-7). Sharts tied a career-high with seven innings pitched while posting a personal-best 11 strikeouts.

The Pack will be back in action tomorrow when it battles Hofstra in a rematch at 12 p.m., followed by a contest against Wichita State at 4 p.m. The Shockers blasted the Pride today in the early game played at Don Weir Field at Peccole Park 19-10.

Despite only striking out three times on the evening, Nevada only mustered one hit in the game. Dillan Shrum, leading the Pack with a .280 batting average, smacked a single in the sixth inning through the left side.

Nevada was able to plate a run in the sixth as well, as Kiambu Fentress darted home on a sacrifice fly courtesy of Wyatt Tilley. The senior leads the team with five RBI this year.

The Pride was able to plate runs in the third and fifth innings while stringing together eight hits on the night. Jake Fenn pitched a shutout eighth for the Pack, while Clayton Westrope and Nicholas Wilson each helped finish off the ninth inning.
