HONOLULU, Hawai'i - In the top of the eighth with a runner in scoring position, sophomore
Danielle Lew, knocked a single over the first baseman that scored
Jessica Sellers. Nevada, in its first extra-inning game walked away with a 1-0 win over Oregon State. The Wolf Pack is now 5-10 on the year.
Kendall Fritz started in the circle and pitched a complete game shutout. The Frisco, Texas native only gave up three hits, without allowing a single walk and dished 12 strikeouts, matching her career high. She is now 4-4 on the season.
The game did not have much action until it came down to extra innings. In the second inning,
Ashley Salausa hit a double to left field and was followed by a single from
Lauren Gutierrez with just one out but both were left on after a pop up and a strikeout ended the threat.
Oregon State had its chance in the top of fifth when Nevada committed a fielding error to put the Beavers on third with two outs but another strikeout from Fritz. In the top of the eighth, the international tie-breaker rule was in effect so Oregon State put a runner on second with no outs. Fritz faced the first batter and got another strikeout and caught the runner stealing on third after Burda threw the ball back to
Sierra Mello for the tag out at third.
Nevada put
Jessica Sellers on second in the bottom of the eighth and Burda laid a perfect bunt down to move her to third with one out. Lew stepped up and after eight pitches she hit a single over the first baseman to score Sellers and win the game.
