RENO, Nev. – For the second time this season, Nevada sophomore QB
Carson Strong has been named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week. He received the same award after his game one performance against Wyoming.
This past week, Strong helped lead Nevada to a 37-26 victory over Fresno State to earn the team's sixth win of the season and close out the home schedule for the regular season. The Vacaville, Calif. native became the first Wolf Pack quarterback since Colin Kaepernick in 2010 to throw five touchdown passes in a single game. He is just the second player in the conference to throw five touchdowns in a game this year, which is tied for seventh nationally. Strong finished the game completing 23-of-39 pass attempts for 354 yards, his fifth 300-yard passing performance in seven games in 2020 and his first in three games. On Strong's fourth touchdown of the game he found true freshman
Tory Horton for 85 yards, marking the longest pass play in Strong's career and the longest in the Mountain West this season.
Strong is in the midst of an impressive sophomore season, helping Nevada to a 6-1 record through seven games. He leads the Mountain West or ranks second, and ranks in the top 25 nationally, in a slew of categories including passing touchdowns (21), passing yards (2,327) passing yards per game (332.4), completions per game (27.7) and completion percentage (69.5). Strong has thrown for over 300 yards in five of the Wolf Pack's seven games, including two 400-yard performances. Earlier this season he set the school record for consecutive pass attempts without an interception at 299, dating back to last season. Additionally Strong has connected with his receivers on pass plays of over 50 yards nine times, including a season-long of 85 yards to true freshman
Tory Horton.
Up next for Nevada, the Wolf Pack will compete for a Mountain West title berth as it faces San José State at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas this Friday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m.
