Volleyball wraps up tournament with win over San Francisco, 3-1

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The Nevada volleyball team moves to 4-2 on the season after picking up another win in the San Francisco Tournament. This win came against the host team, San Francisco, in four sets. Nevada won the last three straight sets, 25-16, 25-23 and 25-16 to seal the victory.

Kayla Afoa, Kili Robins and Brianna Souza all recorded double digit kills while Dalyn Burns had 47 assists. Going along with her 13 kills, Afoa also had 20 digs in the match and three service aces. Freshman Sydney Petersen continues to be a force up front with six blocks with Kassie McGill joining in on the block party with five of her own.

Souza led the Pack, going 12-of-22 and recording a 44.5 hitting percentage along with 54.5 kill percentage. The redshirt junior was also the only member of the Pack to have a solo block to go along with her four block assists.

Nevada fell in the first set, 25-23 but quickly rallied to put the Dons down, 25-16 in the second. Souza started the set off with a kill to put Nevada up, 1-0 and the team never looked back. The Pack never trailed in the set and it was wrapped up on a kill from Robins.

In the third set however, the Pack trailed up until a San Francisco service error allowed Nevada to tie it up, 11-11 midway through. With the score tied up, 15-15, the Dons took the lead back after an ace and held the lead until a block from Burns and Petersen tied it back up, 22-22. A timeout from San Francisco was called but the Pack held on and won it, 25-23.

The final set saw Nevada win, 25-16 and ultimately take the match, 3-1.

Next on the schedule for the Pack is a tournament in Portland, Oregon where Nevada will match up with Portland State, Morgan State and CSUN beginning on Sept. 13.
