RENO, Nev. – Nevada (1-7) outshot Mountain West foe Boise State (8-1) 15-14 on the night, but fell to the Broncos in its Mountain West opener 2-1. Freshman
Gabby Brown scored her second goal of the season and leads the Wolf Pack with five points on the year.
Nevada had possession for 43% of the contest, and spent 59% of the time it had the ball in Bronco territory. Brown led the offensive charge for Nevada with seven shots for the Pack, including both of its shots on goal.
Midway through the first half at the 23-minute mark, BSU's Raimee Sherle broke the 0-0 deadlock and put the Broncos up 1-0 at the half, her eighth of the year. She then assisted on Aubree Chatterton's game-winning goal in the second half, that she was able to put past
Kendal Stovall off of a deflection. Stovall finished with two saves on the night to give her 39 for the season.
Stovall picked up an assist with under four minutes to go in the match, as her goal kick reached Brown in Bronco territory, who was able to weave her way between three defenders and drill the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal. It is the goalkeepers' first-career point while at Nevada.
Behind Brown in shots was
Annika Bergstrand and
Lesly Gonzalez, who each recorded three on the night. Stovall,
Kylie Minamishin,
Hannah Souza,
Brittany Wiehe and
Audrey Barham all played the full 90 minutes for the Pack.
Nevada will be back in Mackay Stadium on Sunday, looking to even its conference record when it welcomes Utah State. That match is slated for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
