RENO, Nev. – Athletics director
Doug Knuth announced the hiring today of
Craig Fink as the Wolf Pack's senior associate athletics director for development.
A professional administrator with more than 20 years of collegiate experience, Fink comes to Nevada after eight years at UNC Greensboro. Fink has served in a variety of roles, most recently as senior associate athletics director for advancement and chief revenue officer. He was tasked with raising money for the UNCG athletic department through private contributions and oversaw all of the department's fundraising activities.
"We're excited to welcome Craig, Kim and their sons to the Wolf Pack family," said Nevada athletics director
Doug Knuth. "Craig has demonstrated an ability to build effective programing and a reliable, structured development operation. He's an experienced professional who has excelled in this industry for more than two decades. We're thrilled to have Craig serve on our leadership team and for him to strengthen relationships in our department, on our campus and in the community."
With Fink at the helm, the UNCG Spartan Club set new records for the athletic scholarship fund every year since his arrival in 2011-12, and the department raised more funds and gifts-in-kind in the past five years than any other five year stretch in its history. Fink also helped to secure the largest gift in program history, a $1.5 million planned gift to create two endowments to support men's golf scholarships. In addition, Fink oversaw the department's business office and financial operations from 2014-15 to 2016-17.
"I am excited to join the Wolf Pack team," said Fink. "I look forward to working for and with athletics director
Doug Knuth. Nevada Athletics is clearly a program on the rise."
Prior to his successful run at UNCG, Fink spent five years at Eastern Michigan University, the last four of which were spent as the associate athletics director for development and executive director of the EMU Athletic Club. At EMU, Fink directed the athletics fundraising operation through the most successful four-year stretch in school history, breaking the record for single-year cash and gifts-in-kind two years in a row. He was also instrumental in helping secure the first $1 million gift commitment in EMU's athletic history – and at the time one of just 10 in university history. Fink also led fundraising efforts for several six-figure facility projects at EMU.
Prior to his work at EMU, Fink spent five years at the Brown University Sports Foundation. After four years there as the associate director, he was elevated to interim executive director and then senior associate director. Fink's work at Brown saw him personally soliciting gifts of five and six figures, as well as being part of the senior management team that put together a strategy to raise $125 million for athletics as part of the $1.4 billion Boldly Brown: Campaign for Academic Enrichment.
Fink also spent four years working at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. He served in several roles there, the last of which was as manager of events and group programs, and developed strategies for and managed all marketing-driven special events, including Enshrinement Weekend.
Fink got his start in collegiate athletics working in the sports information department at the United States Merchant Marine Academy. After a year as an assistant director, he was promoted to director and served as an assistant baseball coach.
A native of Brooklyn, New York, Fink earned a bachelor's degree in sports management from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst (UMass) in 1994 and a professional master's in business administration from UMass in 2000.
Craig and his wife Kim have two sons Jack (19) and Alex (17).
