Box Score RENO, Nev. - The Nevada volleyball team picked up its second win on the season after a four set match against Sacramento State, 3-1. The Pack is now 2-1 on the season.
Dalyn Burns and
Kayla Afoa both recorded double-doubles. Afoa had 20 kills and 21 digs while Burns had 49 assists and 11 digs.
Ryan Blackwood notched 32 digs and
Brianna Souza was involved in eight blocks.
The Pack fell to the Hornets in the first set, 25-22 but came back even more aggressive with a 25-20 win in both the second and third sets before forcing extra points in the fourth to win the match, 29-27.
In the fourth set, Nevada jumped out to a 7-1 lead but it was short lived as Sacramento State fought back and took an 11-9 lead. Eventually the teams tied it up, 13-13, and there were 14 ties following until the Pack claimed the final two points to win it, 29-27. Souza was responsible for the final point of the match, an ace off the hands of the Hornet setter.
The match saw freshmen
Sydney Petersen again today but also a new face to the court in,
Mandalay Rennon. The Mater Dei HS graduate posted nine digs in the three sets she participated in but was also a key server in the final points for the Pack.
Following the match, Afoa and Souza were both named to the Sacramento State All-Tournament Team.
Next up for Nevada is the San Francisco Tournament were the Pack will match up with Purdue Fort Wayne, UC Riverside and San Francisco. The tournament starts on Friday, Sept. 6 with IPFW at 10 am PT.
