What to know before you go to Mackay Stadium

All the informtation you need to have a great time on Friday!

The Nevada football team opens the highly anticipated 2019 season on Friday night against Purdue at Mackay Stadium. Here's everything Wolf Pack fans need to know before they go to the game.

Crowd, traffic and weather advisory
With a crowd of more than 20,000 expected for the opener, we ask Wolf Pack fans to take some extra time in their planning for arrival on campus at Mackay Stadium. Gameday is on a Friday and classes are in session, so there will be traffic both exiting and entering campus throughout the afternoon and evening. Plan ahead and be safe.
We also encourage fans to consider using the new RTC University-Midtown Shuttle Route, that runs north-south along the Virginia Street corridor from Midtown in Reno up to 15th Street on campus. Park downtown and ride the shuttle – normal RTC fares apply.
With summer temperatures in Northern Nevada – it should be in the mid-80s around kickoff on Friday – the Wolf Pack will have expanded hydration stations in both the north and south ends of the stadium and bottled water will be available at concessions stands as well.

Stripe Out Mackay!
The season opener for the highly anticipated Nevada football season will also mark the first-ever Stripe Out for a Wolf Pack football game at Mackay Stadium. The Stripe Out is calling for Silver and Blue throughout the stadium, with alternation sections on the east and west sides and all blue Zonies and student sections in the end zones. Fans are asked to wear their favorite corresponding color shirt to the game next Friday, as the Wolf Pack opens the season at 6:30 p.m. against Purdue – just the second ever Big Ten team to play in Mackay Stadium
Silver and Blue Outfitters has official Stripe Out shirts available at their campus location for just $12.99. CLICK HERE for the Stripe Out map!

Parking and Tailgating
As part of a continuing effort to enhance the energy and gameday experience for all fans, the Wolf Pack is moving tailgates closer to Mackay Stadium. The parking lots immediately north of Jensen Plaza, the new north entrance to Mackay Stadium that opened last season, are being converted to lots specifically for tailgating. Those lots include Jensen Plaza and the lots immediately north of the area that are now named Battle Born, Nevada Grit and Silver and Blue, respectively.
As part of the new tailgating experience, the Wolf Pack football team will arrive on campus at the new tailgating area and will walk through the lot to enter Mackay Stadium approximately 2:30 before game time.
The new tailgating lots did require some changes from of the previous parking lots around Mackay Stadium.  Fans with parking permits for gamedays are encouraged to check the new gameday parking map (PDF) for their assigned lot. For complete information about tailgating, including policies and procedures, visit www.NevadaWolfPack.com/tailgate.

Entering Mackay Stadium
Please note that all gates to Mackay Stadium open two hours prior to kickoff -- 4:30 p.m. for the opener against Purdue. The heaviest traffic flow into the stadium is approiximately 15 minute before kickoff so avoid the lines, arrive and enter early!
Also, the Clear Bag policy is still in effect at all Wolf Pack athletics venues. Approved bags are: clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC  tote bags that do not exceed 12" x 6" x 12"; one-gallon clear plastic storage bags; small clutch purses  4.5" X 6.5" or smaller.
An exception will be made for medically necessary items and diaper bags after proper inspection.   These bags will be tagged to inform venue security that the bag has been cleared by the gate inspection member and to limit any disturbance to the patron once inside the stadium.
Silver and Blue Outfitters has a wide selection of clear bags available. More information is available at NevadaWolfPack.com

Inside Mackay Stadium
Concessions improvements: The Wolf Pack's concessions partner, Nevada Catering, has invested more than a half-million dollars in infrastructure and point-of-sale improvements at Mackay Stadium to improve service to fans. The point-of-sale improvements include the ability for fans to use credit and debit cards at all concessions stands inside Mackay Stadium. The enhancements also include the addition of a new craft beer bar – the Four Peaks Pack Pub – in the northwest corner of Mackay Stadium. The pub will feature craft beers from Four Beaks Brewing and a number of other breweries, including local craft beer selections.
Nevada Catering features a number of partner vendors in 2019 including the addition of Papa John's pizza for this season, and the return of Port of Subs, Famous Dave's BBQ, Mr Pops Kettle Corn and Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory inside Mackay Stadium. Concession stands will also feature the new Ignition Burger — a 1/3-pound hamburger topped with brisket.
Less stadium music, more DJ: That's right – we've added a DJ to the field level at Mackay Stadium. Former Wolf Pack tight end Trae Carter-Wells will DJ pre-game and during breaks throughout the game.
Blitz Patio: New this year will be a special area designated for our Blitz Members called The Blitz Patio located in the Northwest corner of Mackay Stadium. The Blitz Patio will open with five minutes left in the second quarter and remain open through halftime until closing five minutes into the third quarter.
New Kids Zone!: The Wolf Pack Kids Zone has moved! This year, the Kids Zone, featuring play areas and inflatable bounce houses, will be on the turf area south of the stadium, in between the south end zone and Cashell Fieldhouse. The new Kids Zone location is now nearer the Family Section of Mackay Stadium (Section A).

Students
All Nevada students with a valid ID get into the game for free. CLICK HERE for more information on student tickets and the student section.
All first-year Nevada students are invited to participate in the Running of the Wolves. Participants, with a valid student ID, will lead the football team out onto the field and run from the southwest corner of the end zone and finish at the northeast corner.  Students who are participating are asked to lineup 90 minutes prior to kickoff at the statue of the wolves at the main gate inside Mackay Stadium, across from Legacy Hall. Free t-shirts will be distributed at that location. Participants are asked to not wear flip flops or bring selfie sticks.
