Nevada opens season with overtime loss to Eastern Washington

Looks to even record at Pacific on Sunday

RENO, Nev. – In a dramatic season opener at the Moana Springs Sports Complex, Nevada (0-1) fell in overtime to Eastern Washington (1-0) by a score of 1-0. The winner came courtesy of Sariah Keister in the 94th minute off a corner kick by Riley Walkington.

Freshman Gabby Brown led Nevada with 10 shots and three on goal, while sophomore Kendal Stovall made five saves and held a shutout through regulation.

The first half of the match was all Nevada, as it led the Eagles nine shots to one, including none on goal. Nevada put four on goal in the first 45 minutes, but all were saved.

Nevada continued to pour on the shots in the second half, as the doubled the Eagles' 12 to six for the following 45 minutes. EWU led Nevada seven to four on corner kicks, with the final proving to be the difference as it resulted in the game-winning goal five minutes into overtime.

The Wolf Pack held possession of the ball for 58% of the competition, including 38% in Eagle territory. Four Pack players, Stovall, Brittany Wiehe, Hennah Souza and Audrey Barham all played 95 minutes of the game.

Along with Brown's team-leading 10 shots, sophomore Payton Lieb followed with four and two on goal along with freshman Luz Arreaga who also blasted two at the Eagles' keeper. Nevada outshot EWU 21-10 on the night.

Nevada will travel for the first time this season when it faces University of the Pacific on Sunday at 1 p.m.
