Nevada wraps up regular season with 9-2 win over Pacific

Hatten finishes with team-high three hits

RENO, Nev. – In its final regular-season game of the 2019 season, Nevada (29-24) defeated University of the Pacific (22-25) on Tuesday night 9-2. The contest was highlighted by senior Weston Hatten's team-high three hits, three RBI and career-best 10th bomb of the season.

Sitting at a record of 29-24, the Wolf Pack finishes the regular-season with the same record as its 2018 campaign. Nevada will earn a spot in the Mountain West Tournament if neither Air Force or San Jose State sweep one another in their series this weekend.

Tyler Smith earned the start and the win for the Pack, his second victory of the season. The freshman tossed six innings, only allowing five hits and no earned runs with a career-high eight strikeouts.

Nevada outhit the Tigers 11-6, while Pacific burned through nine different pitchers. Only one of those nine pitched longer than one inning.

Three of Nevada's nine runs scored came from wild pitches, with the first occurring in the second inning to give the Pack a 1-0 lead. That would be extended to 2-0 in the fourth as Tyler Bosetti scored from third on a sacrifice fly to center field thanks to Conor Allard.

The Tigers tied the game in the sixth with their only two runs of the ballgame, thanks to an error and an RBI-single. Hatten quickly gave Nevada its lead back, smacking a solo shot in the home half of the frame to put the Pack up 3-2.

Nevada would go on to put up seven runs in its final three innings to close out the game with a 9-2 victory. Cooper Powell, Josh Congress and Ben Purcell pitched the final three frames and combined to only allow one hit and tallied three strikeouts.

The Mountain West Tournament will begin Thursday, May 23 and will be played at Don Weir Field at Peccole Park. Tickets are available online or by calling (775) 348-PACK.
