RENO, Nev. – A total of 75 Nevada Wolf Pack student-athletes have applied for graduation at the University of Nevada this spring and summer.
Â
Ceremonies for the 128th University Commencement are set for this weekend on the University's historic Quadrangle on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 16-18. A reception for graduating student-athletes and their families will be held Thursday at the Basin Street Club at Mackay Stadium on campus.
Â
This year's crop of graduates represent all but one of Nevada's sports programs and is made up of 62 student-athletes and 13 members of the Nevada spirit program. The total of 75 is just four off from last year's record number of 79 graduates representing Wolf Pack athletics and spirit squads.
Â
"Congratulations to all of our student-athletes who are graduating this spring and summer," said
Doug Knuth, Nevada's athletics director. "Earning a college degrees is the ultimate goal for our student-athletes. We are appreciative of all of their contributions to the program and legacy of Wolf Pack athletics."
Â
Graduating Nevada student-athletes are given a special silver and blue sash to wear at Commencement in recognition of their efforts as student-athletes.
Â
Including this spring and summer's graduates, Nevada has seen more than 1,000 of its student-athletes graduate in the past dozen years, a figure that includes 27 student-athletes who walked in commencement ceremonies this past December.
Â
Overall, the University's 129th Commencement will confer 2,587 bachelor degrees, 551 advanced degrees (master's and doctoral degrees) and 63 University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine degrees will be awarded. The University awarded 3,137 total degrees last spring and has seen a 50-percent increase in degrees conferred since 2010 due to increased enrollment and improved graduation rates.
Â
The commencement exercises will take place over four ceremonies in three days – Thursday, May 16; Friday, May 17 and Saturday, May 18 – and will be on the University's historic Quad, located on the southern part of campus. Each ceremony focuses on particular colleges, and both undergraduate and graduate degrees for each of those colleges will be granted. In the case of
