Tilley plays hero as Nevada walks off on San Diego State

Reno, Nev. – With the game tied 7-7 in the ninth inning, junior Wyatt Tilley smacked an RBI-single to help Nevada (16-13, 6-7 MW) top San Diego State (16-14, 5-6 MW) 8-7 on Friday night. Nevada starter Ryan Anderson didn't allow a hit through the first five innings against the Aztecs, and finished with six innings pitched and seven strikeouts.

The Wolf Pack will look to take the series from the Aztecs tomorrow at 6 p.m. at Don Weir Field at Peccole Park. Tickets are available online or by calling (775) 348-PACK.

Nevada tallied 13 hits compared to the Aztec's four, but SDSU was able to draw eight walks from the Pack pitching staff. Weston Hatten was responsible for three of those hits, beginning the evening 3-for-3 and a triple short of hitting for the cycle.

Hatten and Jaylon McLaughlin led Nevada with two RBI each. Nevada scored first in the contest when Joshua Zamora grounded out and Hatten scored from third.

In the second, the Aztecs drew a walk with the bases loaded and a fielders choice gave them a 2-1 lead, their only one of the day. In the home half of the second, Hatten doubled down the left field line to score Marco Valenzuela and tie the game.

The Pack continued its scoring run, as it plated two runs in the third and three in the fourth thanks in part to a solo shot by Hatten over the left field wall. San Diego State would not score again until the sixth, when a bases-clearing double made the score 7-5.

In the ninth, a fielding error and a wild pitched nearly doomed the Pack, as it resulted in two runs being plated for SDSU and tying the game. With the bases loaded and two outs, Cooper Powell (1-0) came in and got the final out of the top of the inning on five pitches. Powell earned the win, his first of the year.

Zamora doubled to lead off the bottom of the ninth, but it wasn't until there were two outs left and McLaughlin scored from third on Tilley's single that Nevada was able to walkoff on its conference foes and win the ballgame 8-7. It was Tilley's only hit of the ballgame and his first game-winning RBI as a member of the Pack.

Tomorrow's contest will be livestreamed on the Mountain West Network. John Ramey will have the call for the Pack on 94.1 FM/1450 AM.
