Zamora’s four RBI leads Nevada to 7-3 victory over UC Davis

Sweeps Aggies on season

RENO, Nev. – Thanks to four RBI from Joshua Zamora and seven innings pitched by Dalton Gomez, Nevada (25-20) cruised to a 7-3 victory over UC Davis (15-23) on Tuesday night. This completes a season sweep of the Aggies, as Nevada picked up a 5-4 victory at UC Davis in its first midweek contest of the 2019 season on February 19.

Gomez (3-2) earned the win after tossing a season-high seven innings and only allowing three earned runs with four strikeouts. Shane Gustafson and Grant Ford were each perfect in their innings that they threw to close out the game.

Zamora began his two-hit day with a single in the first inning to score Jaylon McLaughlin to give the Wolf Pack an early 1-0 lead. Thanks to a single and a sacrifice fly in the second, the Aggies scored two of their three runs to take a 2-1 lead. Nevada tied it in the home half in the inning with some déjà vu as Zamora drove in McLaughlin, but this time on a sacrifice fly.

One of the biggest swings of the day came off the bat of Otis Statum Jr., who lined a two-out double over the first baseman's head to score Tyler Bosetti and Conor Allard with what turned out to be the game-winning runs. His lone hit of the day gave Nevada a 4-2 lead that it would never relinquish.

The Aggies' last run of the day came in the sixth with another sacrifice fly. Bosetti singled with the bases loaded in the seventh to get that run back for the Pack.

Zamora's second hit of the day scored two more runs as he doubled to left center to put the game out of reach and give the Pack a 7-3.

Nevada will host MW leading Fresno State this Friday through Sunday for its final home series. Tickets for this week are available online or by calling (775) 348-PACK.
