Nevada falls to Colorado State and it evens the series

RENO, Nev. - The Nevada softball team moves to 23-17 on the year and 8-6 in Mountain West play after falling to No. 25 Colorado State, 9-0 in five innings. The two teams meet in the rubber match tomorrow at noon PT.

Kali Sargent got her first start since March 30 against New Mexico and pitched three complete innings with five strikeouts. Julia Jensen came in relief in the fourth inning and pitched two outs with three runs, all of which were unearned before Rachel Rodriguez entered the circle. The senior finished with an inning and 1/3 of shutout work. Sargent took the loss unfortunately and is now 4-7 on the year.

The Rams scored first again today with a three run home run in top of the first inning to take an early lead. The Pack responded putting a runner on but was unable to drive them in. Again the Rams scored on a solo home run in the second to go up, 4-0.

Nevada showed life after Sargent and the defense retired five straight batters and then Lauren Gutierrez hit a two-out double back to the right field warning track but was unable to come home after a strikeout.

The fourth inning for Colorado State did some damage as they recorded five runs on three hits to extend their lead, 9-0. It was Amber Nelson and a two RBI home run that put the Rams in run-rule position. In the the fifth inning the Pack put Haley Burda on but just could not get anyone across the plate.

Tomorrow marks the rubber match for the series with first pitch set for noon.
