Nevada drops rubber match to Colorado State

RENO, Nev. - The Nevada softball team moves to 23-18 on the year and 8-7 in Mountain West play after falling to No. 25 Colorado State, 9-1 in the Saturday afternoon rubber match.

Kendall Fritz started in the circle and pitched five complete innings with three strikeouts but had eight earned runs before Kali Sargent came in relief and finished the game. The senior pitched two innings and had three strikeouts of her own with only one run credited to her. Fritz moves to 10-7 on the year after the loss.

The team combined for six hits with Dallas Millwood the lone multi-hit player. The freshman was also responsible for the only run the Pack recorded with a solo home run in the second inning to cut the lead at the time in half.

The Pack had the Rams within one run heading into the third inning but Colorado State had a solo home run along with an RBI double in the third followed by another solo shot in the fourth that put them up 5-1.

Nevada put a base runner in scoring position in the sixth and seventh but the Colorado State lead continued to extend for a final score of 9-1.

Next up for the Pack is Cal for a doubleheader on Tuesday in Berkley, Calif. before they head to Boise to take on Boise State in a three-game series.
