Nevada wins third straight with 8-1 victory at San Francisco

Sweeps USF on the year

SAN FRANCISCO – Led by freshman Nick Seamons' career-high four hits, Nevada (19-17) topped San Francisco (21-15) for the second time this year to sweep the Dons for the 2019 season. With an 8-1 victory today, the Wolf Pack outscored USF 15-4 in two games this year.

Dalton Gomez (2-2) earned his second win of the year with his best outing of 2019, pitching six shutout innings and only allowing three hits. Cooper Powell came in with the bases loaded in the eighth and pitched the final two innings only letting one run score and striking out four of six batters faced.

The game was scoreless through the first three innings until Daniel Perry broke the drought with an RBI-double that scored Conor Allard to give Nevada a 1-0 lead. The Pack took a 2-0 lead in the sixth with another RBI-double, this time coming from the bat of Tyler Bosetti.

The Pack broke through offensively in the eighth, as freshman Matt Clayton singled to score Jaylon McLaughlin. A two-RBI double by Seamons and Dillan Shrum getting hit by pitch for a team-high 14th time this season scored three more runs for Nevada, who led 6-0 midway through the eighth.

The Dons scored their lone run of the game with a sacrifice fly in the eighth, but Powell limited the damage as he came into the game with the bases loaded and nobody out.

Nevada iced the game in the ninth with two-more runs, including the first-career home run by Clayton as he blasted a solo-shot to left-center field. Seamons' fourth and final hit of the day scored Perry and Nevada left the Bay Area with an 8-1 victory.

The Pack will be home this weekend with a pivotal conference series against intrastate rival UNLV. The games will be played Thursday through Saturday with tickets available online or by calling (775) 348-PACK.
