Statum belts grand slam as Nevada routs New Mexico 14-8

Takes series at New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Putting up 14 runs on Sunday afternoon, Nevada (18-17, 8-10 MW) topped New Mexico (16-19, 7-11 MW) to take the series from the Lobos with a 14-8 victory. The Wolf Pack put up a season-high seven runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by Otis Statum Jr.'s first-career grand slam.

Tyler Bosetti notched four hits on the afternoon, the first member of the Pack to do so this year and a career-high for the sophomore. The Pack used four pitchers, with Jake Jackson earning the start and going four innings.

Dillan Shrum notched his team-leading eighth home run of the season in the fifth inning, and leads the Mountain West with six jacks in conference play. He gave Nevada a 6-1 lead, after New Mexico scored the first run of the game in the first frame.

The seven-run sixth inning began with a Shrum RBI-single, tallying his team-high third RBI on the day. Weston Hatten was then walked with the bases loaded, followed by Bosetti singling through the left side to score two.

Statum Jr. then came up and belted his second bomb of the season, a towering shot over the left-field wall to score four for Nevada. The Pack took a 14-3 lead into the seventh.

The Lobos chipped away in the seventh and ninth, plating five more but they did not come close to catching Nevada. The Pack took four out of six games from the Lobos this season to take both series.

Nevada will be on the road at the University of San Francisco on Tuesday. There will be no radio broadcast for this event.
