Sharts, Ford combine to shutout New Mexico in 3-0 Nevada victory

Third shutout of 2019 for Pack

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Nevada (17-17, 7-10 MW) evened its series with New Mexico (16-18, 7-10 MW) on Saturday afternoon by shutting out the Lobos 3-0. Owen Sharts and Grant Ford were the only two pitchers needed for the Wolf Pack to earn its third shutout victory of the season.

Sharts (3-6) earned his third win of the year while Ford picked up his third save. All three of Ford's saves have come against Mountain West opponents. Two of Nevada's three shutouts this season have come from games that Sharts has started.

Nevada's game-winning first run of the game came in the top of the first, when Jaylon McLaughlin blasted his second homerun of the year over the right-field wall to give the Pack a 1-0 lead.

Owen Sharts dealt through the first five innings, only allowing a bloop single in the third frame and striking out two batters. He ran into trouble in the sixth, as Jared Mang belted a one-out triple to put the tying run on third, but Grant Ford began his lights-out appearance by recording two quick outs to get Nevada out of trouble.

The Pack plated two insurance runs in the seventh with one out, as Matt Clayton scurried home on a wild pitch and Joshua Zamora recorded his team-high 23rd RBI of the season on a single that brought Tyler Bosetti home and gave Nevada a 3-0 lead.

Ford continued to deal in the eighth and ninth innings, only allowing two singles in the final two frames. His 3.2 innings pitched were a season-high for Ford.

The rubber match for tomorrow's contest will be tomorrow at 11 a.m. PT. A live stream will be available on the Mountain West Network.
