Bosetti leads Nevada to thrilling 6-5 victory at San Diego State

First conference win of season

Reno, Nev. – In a game that featured a combined 28 hits and five lead changes, Nevada (8-6, 1-2 MW) picked up its first Mountain West victory of the season with a 6-5 win at San Diego State (7-7, 2-2 MW). Sophomore Tyler Bosetti smacked what ended up being the game-winning RBI in the 10th inning and finished with three hits on the afternoon.

Trailing 4-3 in the ninth inning, Bosetti drove in the game-tying RBI to score freshman Nick Seamons before Daniel Perry gave Nevada the lead with an RBI-single of his own. Seamons and Bosetti each tallied an RBI in the 10th in the Pack's first extra-inning game of the year to push Nevada to victory.

Dalton Gomez got the start and went 5.2 innings for the Pack, but reliever Bradley Bonnenfant (2-1) picked up his second win after tossing 1.2 frames late in the game. Grant Ford picked up his first save of the season after pitching the 10th inning.

The scoring began early for both teams, as junior Marco Valenzuela picked up an RBI in the second inning to give the Pack a 1-0 lead. The Aztecs quickly responded with a solo shot to tie the game in the bottom of the frame.

Junior Wyatt Tilley recorded a sacrifice fly in the fourth after the Pack loaded the bases to give Nevada a 2-1 lead, but again the Aztecs responded by hitting a home run, this time scoring two runs to give themselves a 3-2 lead.

SDSU would hold that lead into the ninth inning, but a Seamons leadoff single got things cooking for the Pack. Weston Hatten smacked a single of his own to get Seamons to third, and Bosetti would then drive in the freshman to tie the game. Hatten would score from second on Perry's RBI to give the Pack a 4-3 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth.

Bonnenfant recorded two strikeouts in the ninth, but an RBI-single not only tied the game for the Aztecs but put a man on third with two outs. Tilley came through and saved the game for Nevada, as the last out was a bloop to shallow center that the shortstop had to dive for to send the game to extra innings.

Nevada's extra-innings magic began with one-out singles by Joshua Zamora and Jaylon McLaughlin to get on base. Seamons' RBI-single scored Zamora from home and Bosetti knocked in the game-winning run when he scored McLaughlin from second base with a single to left field to give Nevada a 6-4 lead.

Trailing by two, Grand Ford came in to pitch for the Pack, but the Aztecs were able to score a run with two outs and a full count to Matt Rudick who singled up the middle. Ford then struck out Julian Escobedo to end the game and give Nevada the win.

The Pack will be back in action this Tuesday at UC Santa Barbara at 3 p.m. Ghizal Hasan will have the call on 94.1 FM/1450 AM.
