Reno, Nev. – Sophomore Joshua Zamora's two-RBI single in the sixth inning proved to be the difference as Nevada (6-1) swept its three-game series at Long Beach State (0-7) with a 3-2 victory Sunday afternoon. Nevada has now won its past eight meetings with the Dirtbags and has swept the past two series dating back to 2000.

The Wolf Pack held the Dirtbags to only five runs scored all weekend, never trailing once in the three-game series.

Reliever Josh Congress (1-0) picked up his first-career win with the Pack, after pitching one inning and only allowing two hits. Bradley Bonnenfant pitched the ninth and earned his second save of the season.

Freshman Tyler Smith made his second-career start, and only allowed one hit through the first three innings of the game. The top of the fourth was led off by fellow freshman Nick Seamons, who drilled a stand-up double to put himself in scoring position. An RBI-single to center field by Marco Valenzuela brought him home for the first run of the day.

The Pack was able to put a runner on base in each of the first four innings.

After putting two men on base, Smith worked out of the fourth frame to preserve the 1-0 lead for Nevada. The fifth was a different story, with two outs and two men on the corners, he was relieved by Congress. It was the first time all afternoon that a Dirtbag made it to third base, but Congress produced the final out of the frame with a flyout to right field on one pitch.

Zamora came through for the Pack in the sixth, when it loaded the bases with two outs and still only held a slim 1-0 lead. His two-RBI single flew just over the head of the leaping shortstop to score two and push Nevada's lead to three.

The Dirtbags began to claw back in the eighth after a fielding error, a wild pitch and a fielder's choice got Calvin Estrada all the way to third. Chase Luttrell grounded out, but Estrada was able to scamper home to avoid the shutout. Shane Gustafson came in to replace Grant Ford, and recorded the final out of the eighth with a groundout on two pitches.

The ninth inning saw the Dirtbags drill a two-out solo shot over the right-field fence to make it a one run game, but Bonnenfant hung in to record the final out and ensure the sweep for the Pack.

Nevada's next series will be against Washington State beginning this Thursday. A radio broadcast will be available on 94.1 FM/1450 AM.
