Nevada to celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day Saturday

RENO, Nev. – Wolf Pack Athletics, Girls on the Run-Sierras, the Reno Aces, Reno 1868 and Truckee Meadows Community College Athletics will join forces to celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day this Saturday, Feb. 16 at Lawlor Events Center on the campus of the University of Nevada.
 
The celebration will include a Family & Kids Fair featuring interactive booths and activities centered around the theme of health, fitness and sports as well as Nevada's popular All-Sports Clinic which features stations with Wolf Pack student-athletes teaching and demonstrating their sports to children. Both the fair and all-sports clinic to take place on the upper concourse at Lawlor Events Center prior to Nevada's women's basketball game vs. Wyoming that day.
 
The fair and all-sports clinic will start at 12 p.m. and run until the women's basketball game tips off against the Cowgirls at 2 p.m.
 
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youths (under 12) and seniors (over 65). Tickets will provide entry to the Family & Kids Fair, all-sports clinic and the game. Wolf Pack fans with season or single-game tickets or Pup Club memberships will also receive entry to the fair, clinic and game.

This marks the third year that Nevada Athletics, which sponsors 10 women's sports that benefit over 240 female student-athletes, will team up with Girls on the Run-Sierras to celebrate National Girls & Women in Sports Day, while this is the second year that Reno's professional sports organizations will join the celebration. New to the celebration this year is the addition of TMCC which announced that it will be adding athletics starting next fall.
 
"We are so excited to continue to host the community's celebration of National Girls & Women in Sports Day. We welcome Girls on the Run-Sierras, the Reno Aces and Reno 1868 back and are excited to have TMCC Athletics join us in celebrating this important day and the tremendous benefits girls and women receive from participating in sports," said Rhonda Lundin Bennett, Nevada's Senior Associate Athletics Director/Senior Woman Administrator. "We are also thrilled to combine our great Wolf Pack All-Sports Clinic with our successful Family & Kids Fair this year and hope that our community will join us for what will be a fun and exciting day at Lawlor Events Center."
 
In its 33rd year, National Girls and Women in Sports Day acknowledges the accomplishments of female athletes, the positive influence of sports participation and the continuing struggle for equality for women in sports. It is celebrated annually in all 50 states with events, awards ceremonies and other activities. Nevada and its partners aim to celebrate the power and potential of girls and women by empowering them to participate in sports and embrace physical activity.
