RENO, Nev. (AP) Timmy Allen scored 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Utah beat Nevada 79-74 on Tuesday night in the season opener for both teams.
Both Gach added 22 points for Utah.
After Nevada went on an 9-0 run with 8:46 to take a 58-56 lead, Utah answered with a 13-2 run over the next four minutes of the game and never trailed again.
Utah's starting lineup included five underclassmen and two freshmen.
Nevada's Lyndsey Drew scored a career-high 30 points in his return after missing last season to injury. Drew shot 12 of 19 from the field. The rest of the Wolf Pack players shot 32.7% (16 of 49).
Nevada starting guard and Louisiana Tech transfer Jalen Harris suffered a leg injury midway through the first half and did not return.
True freshman Rylan Jones struggled from the floor in his first game at Utah. Jones scored eight points on 2 of 8 shooting with five assists.
The Utes out rebounded Nevada 51-32 and outscored the Wolf Pack 38-26 in the paint. Nevada finished with four offensive rebounds.
Nevada committed 29 fouls to Utah's 16. The Wolf Pack attempted nine free throws to Utah's 35.

Nevada (0-1) droped its home opener under first-year head coach Steve Alford 79-74 to Utah (1-0) before 8,324 fans at Lawlor Events Center Tuesday night.
The Utah game was the first of four in a row at home to begin the season. Nevada hosts Loyola Marymount on Saturday night at 7 p.m. LMU defeated Westcliff 105-62 tonight.
The loss snapped the Wolf Pack's 18-game home win streak which is tied for the longest in school history and was the fifth longest active streak in NCAAI.
Senior Lindsey Drew made splash in his return after missing last season recovering from a ruptured achilles. Drew scored a career 30 points, dished out eight assists and grabbed six rebounds and did not commit a turnover in 36 minutes.
Drew's previous high was 17 points versus UNLV on Feb. 6, 2018.
The 30 points and eight assists were game highs while the six rebounds tied for team honors.
Senior Jazz Johnson was the other Pack player in double figures finishing with 16 points on the night.
Nevada got 20 points from its bench led by senior Nizré Zouzoua's nine points.
Of the nine players that saw action six played in the Silver & Blue for the first time; Robby Robinson, Johcarlos Reyes, Jalen Harris, Zane Meeks, K.J. Hymes, and Kane Milling.
Harris started and played just 8 minutes before leaving the game with an injury. X-rays will be taken on Wednesday.
Utah attempted 35 free throws to the Pack's nine.
The Utes won the battle of the boards 51-32.
