Nevada’s first road test of the season is Tuesday at Davidson at 4 p.m.

NEVADA AT DAVIDSON PREVIEW

Reno, Nev. – After splitting four home games, the University of Nevada (2-2) men's basketball team will play four away from Lawlor Events Center starting at Davidson (1-2) on Tuesday at 4 p.m. PT.  The game is available on ESPN+.  

After starting the season 0-2 Davidson defeated UNC Wilmington 87-49 for its first win of the season.  The Wildcats have four players averaging in double figures led by Carter Collins' 15.5 points per game.

The Pack has three players scoring in double figures led by senior Jazz Johnson's 19.5 points per game which ranks second in the Mountain West.  Senior Lindsey Drew is scoring 18.3 points per game and tops the team dishing out six assists per game.  Drew is tied with sophomore Robby Robinson grabbing 7.3 points per game.  Junior Jalen Harris is scoring 11 points per game.

After the Davidson game the Wolf Pack continues on compete in the Paradise Jam in Saint Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.  Nevada will play three games in the Paradise Jam starting with Fordham on Friday.  

THE SERIES
Nevada won the only game with Davidson, 81-68 on Nov. 21, 2017.  Tuesday's game is a return game from the contest played in Reno in 2017.

JOHNSON STARTING SENIOR SEASON WITH EXPLOSIVE OFFENSIVE NUMBERS
    Wolf Pack senior Jazz Johnson is starting his senior season with explosive offensive numbers averaging a team-high 19.5 points per game.  The 19.5 points per game ranks second in the Mountain West and 76th nationally.
    Johnson is the only Pack player to score in double figures in all four game this season and has two 20-point games.  The first 20-point contest was in the win over LMU and the second was a game-high 26 points in the USC game.  The 26 points is one shy of his career-high of 27 points set last season at Air Force.  In the other two games he scored 16 points.  He made six 3-pointers against the Trojans, one off his career-high of seven that he had in the Air Force game.
    He ranks 11th in NCAA I having made 16 3-pointers and is 14th with 38 3-point attempts and four 3-pointers made per game.  The senior guard tops the Mountain West in all three categories.
    From behind the arc he is shooting 42.1 percent which ranks third in the MW.  Overall he is connecting on 43.1 percent of his field goals.
    A 1,000 point scorer, he is 20 points from 1,200 in his career.  He scored 740 points in his two years at Portland.

MOUNTAIN WEST CONFERENCE
    New Mexico and Utah State have all started the nonconference season with 4-0 records.  San Diego State is close behind at 3-0.  Colorado State (3-1) and Air Force (2-1) both have one loss this season.
    Nevada, SJSU and Fresno State sit at 2-2 while Boise State (1-2), UNLV (1-3) and Wyoming (1-3) all have one win this season.
    MW play will begin a week earlier this season on Dec. 4 but with an odd number of 11 schools in the conference Nevada will begin the season with a bye.  The Pack will host Santa Clara at 7 p.m. on Dec. 4 in a nonconference matchup.  The Wolf Pack's first MW game is Dec. 7 at Air Force and first home MW game is set for Jan. 1 when Colorado State is at Lawlor Events Center.

JOHNSON SCORES SEASON-HIGH 26 POINTS IN LOSS TO USC


RENO, Nev. (AP) Nick Rakocevic scored 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Southern California beat Nevada 76-66 on Saturday night.  
    Daniel Utomi added 12 points and Elijah Weaver scored 11 for USC.
    After Nevada took a 21-18 lead with 8:33 left in the first half, USC went on a 13-0 run over the next five minutes and never trailed.
    USC's size advantage proved too much for the Wolf Pack and its senior-laden backcourt. The Trojans (4-0) outrebounded Nevada 42-37 and outscored the Wolf Pack 42-10 in the paint.
    Rakocevic, a 6-foot-11 senior, made 10 of 15 from the field. Onyeka Okongwu grabbed 11 rebounds and Ethan Anderson had eight assists.
    Nevada (2-2) hit 11 of 36 (30.6%) from 3-point range and shot 32.8% (20 of 61) overall.
    Nevada guard Jazz Johnson scored 26 points, one shy of his career high, on 8-of-18 shooting, including 6 of 14 from beyond the arc. Lindsey Drew added 12 points.
    The game saw eight lead changes in the first half and USC took a 40-35 lead into the break.

    The Pack starts play with Fordham (3-0) on Friday at 12:15 p.m. PT.  On either Saturday or Sunday, depending on the outcome of the first day, Nevada faces Grand Canyon or Valparaiso.  The other side of the bracket includes Illinois State, Cincinnati, Bowling Green and Western Kentucky.
