Harris has 24 points, leads Nevada to 80-73 win over UTA

Pack improves to 2-1

RENO, Nev. (AP) Jalen Harris had 24 points and nine rebounds as Nevada held off Texas-Arlington for an 80-73 win on Tuesday night in the first meeting between the schools.

Jazz Johnson had 16 points and Nisre Zousoua came off the bench to score a career-high 16. Harris was 11 of 14 at the free throw line.

The Wolf Pack (2-1) took a 38-35 lead into the break but quickly surrendered that when Jabari Narcis drained consecutive 3-pointers to go out front 41-40. Lindsey Drew answered with a driving layup to give Nevada a 44-43 lead at the 15:37 mark. K.J. Hymes followed with a dunk for a 46-43 advantage. The Wolf Pack led the rest of the way.

Radshad Davis had 14 points to go with nine rebounds to lead UTA (2-1). Sam Griffin had 13 points and David Azore added 12.

Game Notes:
 
Nevada (2-1) won its second consecutive game downing previously unbeaten UT Arlington (2-1) 80-73 at Lawlor Events Center.
 
The Wolf Pack hosts its second Pac-12 opponent in USC (3-0) on Saturday at 8 p.m.
 
Junior Jalen Harris returned after missing the last game and most of the season opener to score a game-high 24 points and just missed a double-double grabbing nine rebounds.  Harris suffered an ankle injury in the season opener against Utah playing just 8 minutes.
 
Harris made 11-of-14 free throws in the game and the Pack 16-of-30.
 
It was new head coach Steve Alford's second win at Nevada.  Alford is 589-299 in 29 years as a college head coach and is now 11 wins from 600.
Seniors Jazz Johnson and Nizré  Zouzoua each scored 16 points in the victory.
Johnson has scored in double figures in all three games this season.
 
For Zouzoua it was a Pack career high and his first double figure scoring game at Nevada.
 
Nevada outrebounded the Mavericks 43-40.
 
It was the first meeting between the two schools.
 
For the second game in a row the Pack had three players score in double figures.
 
For the first time this season senior Lindsey Drew did not score in double figures finishing with seven points, eight rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocks.
 
Nevada had six blocks in the game.  Two each by Johncarlos Reyes, Drew, and K.J. Hymes.
 
Sophomore Robby Robinson had eight points and eight rebounds in 27 minutes.
 
The Pack committed a season-high 16 turnovers.
