Pack falls to Hornets in four sets

SACRAMENETO, Calif. – The Nevada volleyball team moves to 5-2 on the season after falling in four sets to Sacramento State. The Pack won the first set 25-23 but the Hornets took the next three, 25-18, 25-12 and 25-17.

Junior outside hitter Jamila Minor recorded a double-double on the night with 11 kills and 12 digs. Minor also collected two service aces, a block assist and put up 13.5 points for Nevada.

In the first set the Pack came out strong and maintained consistent throughout, only allowing three lead changes. Sophomore Sam Hayward had six kills on 12 total attacks to lead the team through the first set, 25-23.

Sacramento State answered back in the second set and took the early lead. Towards the end of the set, the Hornets were up 24-13 but the Pack put together a late four point run to cut the deficit to just six but the Sacramento State offense held on to a 25-18 win.

The third and fourth sets did not vary much from the second. In the third, the Hornets came out aggressive and took an 8-2 lead. Nevada tried to whittle the difference down but Sacramento State went on a ten point scoring run to end the third set and take it, 25-12. The fourth set started with a five point scoring run by the Hornets and the Pack fought its way back into within two points but just could not hold on to win it, falling 25-17 in the fourth and final set.
