RENO, Nev. – As the 2018 National Football League season gets underway, the Wolf Pack has six former student-athletes on active roster heading into opening weekend.
Rishard Matthews (WR) – Tennessee Titans
Matthews is a six-year vet of the NFL and signed with the Tennessee Titans in 2016. Through his two seasons in Tennessee, Matthews led the team with 1,740 receiving yards and 13 touchdown receptions and ranked second in receptions with 118. In 2016 he set career highs with 65 receptions, 945 receiving yards and nine touchdown receptions. He began his professional career in 2012 after being drafted in the seventh round of the NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins.
Joel Bitonio (OL), Austin Corbett (OL), Lenny Jones (DE) – Cleveland Browns
Bitonio and Corbett are both projected to start on the left side of Cleveland's offensive line in 2018, with Bitonio at left tackle and Corbett at left guard. Bitonio will be playing in his fifth NFL season in 2018, while Corbett begins his rookie campaign. Both Bitonio and Corbett were second round selections by the Browns in the NFL Draft with Bitonio selected 35
th overall in 2014 and Corbett going 33
rd overall earlier this year.
Jones will begin the year on injured reserve with Cleveland. Since 2016 Jones has spent time with the San Francisco 49ers, Oakland Raiders, Los Angeles Rams and Dallas Cowboys.
Virgil Green (TE) – Los Angeles Chargers
Green enters his eighth season in the NFL and his first with the Los Angeles Chargers. A two-time AFC Champion, Green also won a Super Bowl with the Denver Broncos in 2015. Last season Green started all 16 games for the first time in his career with Denver and posted nearly 200 receiving yards and a touchdown reception on 14 catches. He spent the first seven years of his career with the Broncos, who drafted him in the seventh round of the 2011 NFL Draft.
Brandon Marshall (LB) – Denver Broncos
Marshall has played six seasons in the NFL, five of which have come with his current team, the Denver Broncos. He is a two-time AFC Champion and was part of the Super Bowl 50 championship team in 2015. In 2017, Marshall led the Broncos with 106 tackles and added three sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. To date he has played in 63 career games, making 56 starts, and has played in seven playoff contests. Marshall began his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars, who drafted him in the fifth round of the 2012 NFL Draft.
