Box Score BERKELEY, Calif. – The Nevada women's tennis team finished the second day of the Cal Invitational with several strong doubles performances, setting up an exciting final day today that will include an all Wolf Pack final.
In the ITA Gold Doubles quarterfinals,
Anastaysha Gorbacheva and
Maria Tatarnikova defeated a duo from Brigham Young University by a score of 8-3 to advance to the semifinals. The duo fell just short of a finals appearance, dropping the match against California's Jasie Dunk and Maria Smith 8-2.
Meanwhile, in the ITA Gold Doubles consolation bracket, the Wolf Pack's
Kristina Lagoda and Melissa Hutchet pushed into the finals. The duo made it through the quarterfinals after a member of the Fresno State duo was injured, and then defeated Santa Clara's Caitlyn Frankel and Lindsey Pesqueria with a score of 8(2)-7.
In the finals, which are slated for today, the duo will be competing against at least one familiar face.
Adriana Gergelyova will be representing the Pack from the other side of the net, while she's paired with UC Santa Barbara's Amit Lev-Ari. The mixed duo topped Cal Poly's Kim Bhunu and Susanne Boyden in the quarterfinals 8-6. In the semifinals, the pair beat UC Davis' Jessica Walker and Nikita Pradeep by a score of 8-4.
On the singles side,
Maria Tatarnikova dropped her ITA Gold quarterfinal match to BYU's Madeline Alemida 6-0, 6-2. In the ITA Blue Singles consolation bracket
Marta Ruedas' quarterfinals run ended with a 6-1, 6-1 defeat at the hands of the University of San Francisco's Hanna Borjeson.
Ruedas and Turulja's run in the ITA Blue Doubles consolation bracket came to a close as well, falling 8-4 to California's Alexis Nelson and Anna Bright.
The tournament also includes a round robin singles bracket, with four Wolf Pack participants in the first round. Turulja, Lagoda and Gergelyova all dropped their first round matches, while Hutchet defeated Jordan Harris of Saint Mary's by a score of 6-3, 6-1.
