RENO, Nev. – After a morning win over Virginia in five sets, the Nevada volleyball team swept host team, Northern Illinois in three sets (25-20, 25-23, 25-22) in the night cap. The Pack improves to 4-1, the best start of a season since 2006.
Kayla Afoa continued to have a career day after posting another double-double in the evening match. The sophomore broke her career high in kills that she had just posted in the morning match against Virginia. Against the Cavaliers Afoa had 16 kills, against the Huskies 18 kills.
Junior,
Jamila Minor is a force to be reckoned with after adding 14 kills and 14.5 points along with 12 digs. Minor is currently leading the Pack with 78 total kills and a 4.33 kill per set average. Her kill total and average puts her second in the Mountain West.
With 26 ties and 11 lead changes, each set was a battle to the end. In the second set alone there were 14 ties and six lead changes. The difference, the Nevada offense. Minor was responsible for the final kill in each the first and second set with Afoa sealing the win with the last kill in the third set. The team posted a .258 hitting percentage holding the Huskies to .170 and 34 kills.
