LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska (20-22) scored runs in five innings and defeated the University of Nevada (21-19) baseball team 12-5 on Saturday afternoon at Hawks Field. The Cornhuskers won all three games of the non-conference series and improved to 20-22 while the Wolf Pack dropped its season-high sixth in a row leaving them 21-19 on the season.
The Cornhuskers scored twice in the first inning, four times in the second and added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to build an 8-0 advantage. While the Nebraska offense was scoring runs the Huskers starting pitcher Luis Alvarado was keeping the Pack bats silent. Alvarado did not allow a hit until
Jaylon McLaughlin singled leading off the sixth inning. Pack third baseman
Joshua Zamora got the second hit off Alvarado leading off the top of the seventh inning with a solo home run to get Nevada on the scoreboard.
Nebraska scored four times in the bottom of the seventh and held a commanding 12-1 lead after seven innings. Nevada scored four times in the ninth inning to make the final scored 12-5. The first five Wolf Pack hitters reached base to start the top of the ninth.

Conor Allard's single scored Echavia with the final run of the game.
Mark Nowaczewski (4-4) allowed six runs on five hits and suffered the loss. Alvarado (3-5) earned the win surrendering one run on two hits in eight innings.
Five different Pack hitters collected a hit in the game. Zamora hit his team-leading seventh home run and Fennell plated two runs with his single in the ninth. Scott Schreiber (3-for-6,2R,3RBI) led Nebraska with three hits and along with Gunner Hellstrom drove in three runs.

Nebraska leads the all-time series 5-2.
Zamora hit his team-leading seventh home run of the season and second in the Nebraska series.
Cole Krzmarzick's team season-high 20-game streak of reaching base ended as did his career-high nine-game hit streak as he went 0-for-3.
Echavia's reached base streak was extended to 20 games which ties Krzmarzick for the high on the team this season.
Fennell has reached base in the last 19 games which is tied for the third longest streak on the team.
