RENO, Nev. – Playing a doubleheader at the McArthur Tennis Center to finish the regular season, the Nevada women's tennis team (9-8) shutout UC Davis (14-6) 4-0 and Portland State (0-15) 5-0 on Friday afternoon. The Wolf Pack finished the season with a 1-3 conference record.
Nevada will travel to Boise, Idaho next week to play in the Mountain West Tournament. Depending where it is seeded, the Pack will either play its first match on Thursday or Friday.
The Pack began its day with a quick 4-0 victory over the Aggies. It clinched the doubles point on court No. 3 when Anastaysha Gorbacheva and Adriana Gergelyova defeated UC Davis 6-2 to give Nevada a 1-0 lead.
Singles went in the Pack's favor, securing the victory on court No. 6 when freshman Maria Tatarnikova defeated Shirley Hall 6-2, 6-2. The freshman is currently on a team-high five match win streak.
Senior Blaga Delic and freshman Lili Fekete also secured victories on courts No. 3 and 4 to help make the final score 4-0. It was just the Aggie's sixth loss of the spring.
In its match against the Vikings, Nevada kept its momentum rolling by sweeping the doubles matches. Junior Marta Ruedas and freshman Melissa Huchet secured the final doubles point on court No. 2 by a score of 6-4. Seniors Claudia Herrero and Delic dominated both of their doubles matches on the day, winning each 6-1 on court No. 1.
Huchet and Tatarnikova each made short work of their singles matches, defeating their opponents on courts No. 5 and 6 by a score of 6-1, 6-0. With a 3-0 lead, Delic was able to clinch the victory with a 6-0, 6-3 victory on court No. 3 on her senior day. Herrero and Sara Korzeniecki were also celebrated in between the two matches.
