SAN JOSE, Calif. – Finishing Mountain West play on Sunday, the Nevada women's tennis team (7-8, 1-3 MW) downed the San José State Spartans (11-8, 0-3 MW) 7-0 in its last road contest of the regular season. The Wolf Pack will return home to end the regular season with a doubleheader on April 20 against UC Davis and Portland State.
Freshman Lili Fekete clinched the match for the Wolf Pack on court No 4, helping the Pack to achieve its third 7-0 victory of the season.
Nevada secured doubles victories on courts No. 2 and 3 to begin the afternoon with a 1-0 lead. Junior Marta Ruedas picked up her first conference victory of the season, and clinched the doubles point on court No. 2 with freshman Melissa Huchet. The tandem defeated Tamara Culibrk and Laura Malsert 6-2.
Huchet earned the first singles victory of the day, only losing one game to Jackie Wagner and gave Nevada a 2-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Adriana Gergelyova secured her first singles victory in Mountain West play in straight sets on court No. 2 by a score of 6-4, 6-2.
After Fekete clinched the match on court No. 4, 7-5, 6-2, the Pack used three tiebreakers to sweep the Spartans. The final match was won by senior Claudia Herrero, downing Sybille Gauvain in an epic 7-5, 7-6 (15-13) end to conference play.
