SAN DIEGO, Calif. – With only one Mountain West match remaining, the Wolf Pack (6-8, 0-3 MW) lost a close contest at San Diego State (10-10, 1-1 MW) 4-3. It is the second conference match this season that the Pack lost by one point.
The contest came down to the final singles match, where Paola Diaz defeated Adriana Gergelyova 2-6, 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-2) with two tiebreaker sets to clinch the victory on court No. 2 for the Aztecs.
For the third straight week, Gergelyova and freshman Anastaysha Gorbacheva clinched the doubles point on court No. 3. Seniors Claudia Herrero and Blaga Delic grabbed the first doubles victory of the day with a 6-2 victory on court No. 1 and the Pack clinched it with its victory on three.
After the Aztecs secured wins on courts No. 3 and 5, freshman Maria Tatarnikova earned her first conference victory of the season with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Nnena Nadozie. Herrero grabbed a big victory on court No. 1 over Jana Buth 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) to give Nevada a 3-2 lead.
Consecutive victories on courts No. 4 and 2, including Diaz's match-clinching victory ended the afternoon with an SDSU victory. Nevada will conclude conference play this Sunday at San Jose State.
