Jackson’s pitching and hot bats earn Nevada MW series win at UNM

Pack takes series 2-1

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of Nevada (5-5, 2-1 MW) baseball team got an outstanding start from freshman pitcher Jake Jackson and combined that with a season-high 13 hits that produced two big innings to down New Mexico (5-5-1, 1-2 MW) 13-8 at Santa Ana Star Field today to win the Mountain West series 2-1.  The Wolf Pack evened its overall record at 5-5 and improved to 2-1 in MW play after its conference series win the opening weekend.  The Lobos fell to 5-5-1 and 1-2 in conference play.

Nevada plays at Pacific (4-8) on Tuesday at 6 p.m.  There will be no Nevada online audio or radio broadcast for the game.

Jackson tossed six scoreless innings, struck out eight and allowed four hits to earn his second win of the season.  He left with the Pack leading 13-0 and the bullpen allowed eight runs in the final two innings of game.  Jackson improved to 2-0 on the season while UNM's Cody Dye fell to 0-2 on the season.

Pack third baseman Joshua Zamora's first of two home runs on the day, a solo shot in the second inning gave Nevada an early 1-0 lead.  The first big inning of the day was the top of the fourth when 10 Pack hitters stepped to the plate and six scored.  Shortstop Tyler Bosetti doubled home three runs while Daniel Perry, Conor Allard and Weston Hatten all had RBI hits.

Zamora ledoff the sixth with solo home run and Grant Fennell had a two-run shot as part of the four-run sixth.  Allard also had an RBI single and it was 11-0 Wolf Pack.  Allard's double in the seventh and Perry's ground out scored the final runs of the game for Nevada and it was 13-0 after seven innings of action.  UNM scored eight runs in the final two innings to make the final 13-8.

Five Pack hitters had multiple hits led by Allard's three hits in five at bats.  He drove in three as did Bosetti.  Fennell (2-for-5,R,RBI), Bosetti (2-for-4,R,3RBI), Kaleb Foster (2-for-5,2R) and Zamora (2-for-3,4R,2RBI,2HR) each had two hits in the win.  Zamora hit a pair of home runs, his first at Nevada.
Eight of the Pack 13 hits went for extra bases, five doubles and three home runs.
