Box Score RENO, Nev. – In its second consecutive match at the Lakeridge Tennis Club, Nevada (11-3) knocked off the University of Montana (5-3) by a score of 5-2 on Sunday afternoon. Junior Augustin Delahodde clinched the match on court No. 5 to give the Wolf Pack its fourth consecutive victory.
The afternoon began with three very close doubles matches, two of which went into a tie breaker. Delahodde and partner Peter O'Donovan earned the first victory of the match on court No. 2, defeating Alex Canellopoulos and Ludvig Hallgren 6-4. Senior Robert Margitfalvi and freshman Dylan Levitt clinched the doubles point for the Pack on court No. 3, winning 7-6 and 7-2 in the tie breaker. Sophomores Julien Evrard and Kostya Nesterenko also won 7-6 and won their tie breaker 7-2, completing the sweep of the doubles matches.
Nevada kept its momentum rolling going into its singles matches, as Margitfalvi dominated on court No. 3 with a 6-2, 6-1 victory to push the Pack's lead to 2-0. Evrard's match went to a third set, but the sophomore handled business on court No. 1 after coming back to defeat Victor Casadevall 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
The Grizzlies didn't let the Pack sweep them, and made things interesting by securing singles victories on court No. 2 and 4 to cut Nevada's lead to 3-2. Delahodde ended Montana's push at a comeback by clinching the match with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 comeback victory. Jonathan Aremon wrapped up the day for the Pack by earning a decisive 6-2, 6-2 victory on court No. 6 to make the final score 5-2.
Nevada is now 49-33 on the season in singles play and an astounding 30-6 in doubles. Delahodde and Evrard are tied with a team-high three-win streak in singles, while Delahodde and O'Donovan have won seven doubles matches in a row.
The Pack is set to begin Mountain West competition next weekend, playing at New Mexico on Friday and at Air Force on Sunday.
