Norvell and the Pack add more signees to strong recruiting class

Nevada has 25 new players joining the program

RENO, Nev. – Second-year Nevada football coach Jay Norvell announced the addition of nine players to the 2018 recruiting class for the Wolf Pack on Wednesday, the opening day of the traditional signing period known as National Signing Day.

Norvell and the Pack inked 16 recruits during the new early signing period in December and currently have a 25-player class to join the program.

The nine additions on Wednesday were dominated by linemen, with three new members of the Union on the offensive side and three defensive linemen joining the Pack. Nevada also got official commitments from a tight end, running back and wide receiver on Wednesday.

"I love this class," Norvell said at Nevada's signing day press conference. "We have guys from winning programs. We have guys with character. We have guys who are like us as coaches. These kids are a reflection of us. They love to play and they are physical. I'm excited."

At the early signing period in December, Norvell and the Pack stated a goal of adding size with the remaining additions to the class. Nevada did just that with offensive linemen Cole Watts (6-8, 280), Jermaine Ledbetter (6-5, 325), and Trey Hamilton (6-4, 265) and defensive linemen Fanon Vines (6-5, 255), Tristan Nichols (6-4, 300) and Kevin Scott (6-5, 315), and tight end Hayden Werbeckes (6-5, 220).

Nevada also added running back Toa Taua from Lompoc, Calif. He is the younger brother of Wolf Pack great Vai Taua, who is now an assistant on the Nevada staff. Toa Taua ran for more than 4,600 yards in his high school career.

The Pack's other skill position signee today was Charles Ross (Culver City, Calif.), a 6-0, 170-pound wideout who caught 25 touchdowns in high school.

Hamilton, a Reno High product, is one of two Northern Nevada players in the group. The other is Werbeckes, a Galena High standout whose father (Tom) and uncle (Jim) both played football at Nevada.
