PROVO, Utah. – The Nevada cross country team finished 10
th in today's NCAA Mountain Regionals. Junior
Hiley Dobbs led the way with a 21
st place finish.
"We had some great individual performances," said head coach
Kirk Elias. "Our depth took its toll as a team, however."
Dobbs earned a 21
st place finish in the 136-person race with a time of 20:30, which is just a second slower than her personal best of 20:29. Finishing in second for the Pack was junior
Stefanie Ortega, who clocked a time of 21:01, good for 36
th and just eight seconds behind her personal best of 20:53.
Lindsey Sickler took 51
st with a time of 21:18, followed by Melendrez with a time of 21:36 to finish 73
rd. The finish shaved 15 seconds off of Melendrez' personal best, and moved her into a tie for 12
th all time at Nevada, and third on the all time freshman list.
"She had a fabulous race," Elias said of Melendrez. "She was dialed in."
Freshman
Tabatha Walford was the last scorer for Nevada, clocking in at 104
th with a time of 22:13. Junior
Shannon Palladino finished 121
st with a time of 22:43.
The field for next week's NCAA National Championships in Madison, Wisc. will be announced this Saturday.
