Nevada falls to New Mexico Lobos in five sets

ALBUQUERQUE, NM. – The Nevada volleyball team moves to 8-8, 1-4 on the year after falling to the New Mexico Lobos in five sets, 14-25, 25-13, 17-25, 25-21, 4-15. The Pack now travels to Las Vegas, Nev. to play UNLV on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. PT.

The sophomore McKayla Wuensch got the start on the evening and made the most of it. The setter recorded her first double-double on the season with 33 assists and 13 digs, both of which are also career highs. Not only did she record career numbers in assists and digs but also in block assists with six.

Another member of the Pack that had a career night was junior Shiloh Peleras. The outside hitter notched seven block assists to bring the total for Nevada to 12. The twelve blocks that the Pack put up was a season high, just one more than the 11 that was tallied against ACC opponent Virginia.

Jamila Minor led the team with her kill number but junior Camryn Rocha had 12 kills on 26 total attacks for a .308 clip, leading the team in efficiency. Minor and Rocha were the only two that collected double digit kills but redshirt freshman Hailey Maniglia gathered seven for the third highest on the team.

In the first set, the Lobos held the Pack to a stunning .061 hitting percentage while they hit for .500, however it was reverse in the second set. Nevada put up a .545 hitting percentage while holding the Lobos to a staggering -.071.

The third and fourth sets were much closer than the first two as the teams split, each taking one set. Neither team allowed more than a three-point scoring run to happen until the fifth set. In the fifth and final set the Lobos dominated the offensive attack winning the set and the match, 3-2.

Nevada continues its road swing as it travels to Las Vegas for the first Silver State Series match. First serve is on Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. PT and the match will be streamed on the Mountain West Network.
