RENO, Nev. (AP) -- Ty Gangi threw two touchdowns and Nevada's defense kept San Diego State from scoring in the second half to beat the Aztecs 28-24 Saturday night.
Nevada (5-4, 3-2 Mountain West Conference) ended its three-game losing streak to San Diego State (6-2, 3-1) and celebrated its first win against the Aztecs since 2014.
The Aztecs grabbed a quick 14-0 lead when Ryan Agnew threw a 2-yard score to Chase Jasmin with 9:16 left in the first quarter, then threw a 16-yarder to Kahale Warring almost five minutes later. But the Wolf Pack ran scored 15 straight with a safety, Gangi threw a 40-yard score to Toa Tua and a 26-yard score to Brendan O'Leary-Orange.
San Diego State regained the lead with a field goal before Agnew connected again with Warring for a 30-yard touchdown for a 24-15 halftime lead.
Out of the break, Devonte Lee's 2-yard score finished an eight-play, 75-yard drive to bring the Wolf Pack within two, and Ramiz Ahmed added field goals of 32 and 34 yards to seal the win.
Agnew led the Aztecs with 283 yards passing and three touchdowns.
Postgame notes – San Diego State
-Nevada's win snapped San Diego State's six-game winning streak and handed the Aztecs their first conference loss of the season.
-The Wolf Pack has now won back-to-back games for the first time in the
Jay Norvell era and improved its record to 5-4 overall and 3-2 in the Mountain West.
-The Pack defense held San Diego State scoreless in the second half. It marked the second time this season that Nevada held a team scoreless in a half, the other being Portland State in the second half.
-Nevada recorded a safety as its first points of the game in the first quarter, its first safety since December of 2006 against Miami.

Toa Taua scored Nevada's first TD of the night on a 40-yard TD catch from
Ty Gangi. It was Taua's first career TD reception.

Quinton Conaway posted single game career highs in punts (9), punt yards (460) and punt average (51.1 yards per punt). He posted a long punt of 68 yards, the second-longest of his career, and had five of his nine punts go for 50 yards or more.

Brendan O'Leary-Orange TD reception, his third of the season. O'Leary-Orange finished the game with four receptions for 51 yards, both season highs.

Jomon Dotson forced a fumble that was recovered by sophomore DE
Sam Hammond. It was the first force of Dotson's career and first recovery of Hammond's career. Dotson also recovered a fumble in the fourth quarter, his second of the season.

Devonte Lee scored his fourth rushing TD of the season in the third quarter and has TDs in back-to-back games for the first time in his career.

Malik Reed recorded the 20
th sack of his career in the third quarter, tying him with Lenny Jones for fifth all-time at Nevada. Reed is also tied for eighth in career sacks among active FBS players.

Ramiz Ahmed notched field goals of 32 and 34 yards and is now a perfect 11-for-11 in his career on FGs inside 40 yards.
-San Diego State allowed 10 points in the third quarter, snapping a streak of 27 consecutive quarters allowing eight points or less.

Trae Carter-Wells caught three passes in the game, setting a career high. His previous high was one.
