Men's tennis advances to singles and doubles finals in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS  – The Wolf Pack advanced into the singles and finals doubles today at the ITA Mountain Regionals in Las Vegas. Junior Julian Evrard will be in both finals, joined by fellow junior Kostya Nesterenko. This will be the first time a Nevada athlete made it to the finals of this tournament.

With his appearance in the singles finals, Evrard qualifies for the Oracle ITA National Championships in Surprise, Ariz. from Nov. 7-11. Nesterenko and Evrard can make it to the tournament for doubles as well with a win tomorrow.

In the singles bracket, Evrard topped BYU's Sean Hill in straight sets, winning 6-4, 6-4. The singles final will be tomorrow at 1 p.m., with Evrard facing New Mexico's Rickey Hernandez-Tong.

In the doubles bracket, Nesterenko and Evrard went 2-0 on the day. In the quarterfinals, the pair defeated Utah's David Micevski and Svyatoslav Shainyan 8-5. In the semifinals, the pair topped another duo from Utah, defeating Randy Cory and Russell Benkalm 6-4, 6-4. The doubles final will be tomorrow at 11 a.m. against Northern Arizona's Ruben Montano and Tim Handle.
