Northern Arizona defeats Nevada 1-0 with a goal in the first minute of play

Wolf Pack will play at home on Friday against Southern Utah

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The University of Nevada women's soccer team (1-4-0) dropped their match at Northern Arizona (4-1-0) on Sunday by a score of 1-0. A goal in the first minute by the Lumberjack's Madeline Waszak was the lone difference in the match.

"I was extremely proud of the team's work and battle mentality this match," said head coach Erin Otagaki. "Although the final result was not what we wanted, I felt the team executed the game plan and got better as a unit."

Not one minute into the match, Waszak was able to bank the ball off Nevada's right goal post and into the back of the net for what ended up being the game-winning goal for the Lumberjacks. She was assisted by teammates Malia Lyken and Adrian Nixt.

Nevada goalkeeper Lauryn Horstdaniel was on full lockdown after the opening goal, however, saving the three shots on goal that NAU would get off in the match. Her total saves for the season increased to 29 after today.

NAU outshot the Wolf Pack 12-3 including putting four on goal. Nevada held the Lumberjacks to only three first half shots and one corner kick on the day. Junior Rylee Peterson recorded all three of Nevada's shots in the match. She currently leads the team with 14 shots. Katie Prosser, Bryanna Wiehe, Morgan Beye and freshmen Rylie West and Tiana Ono all played the full 90 minutes for Nevada.

The Wolf Pack will play their first home game in Mackay Stadium this Friday, Sept. 8 against Southern Utah. Get your tickets for the rest of the season's home games today by calling (775) 348-PACK or visiting NevadaWolfPack.com.
