Martinson to receive 2017 Silver and Blue Service Award

Longtime volunteer

Julie Martinson is the winner of the 2017 Nevada Athletics Silver and Blue Service Award.

The Silver and Blue Service Award honors individuals who have volunteered their time and efforts in all support areas to help Wolf Pack Athletics over the years. Any person who has volunteered in any capacity is eligible for this award.

A former member of the Wolf Pack women's basketball team, Martinson has worked on the Wolf Pack statistical crew for women's basketball since 1974 and has operated the shot clock at Nevada men's basketball games since the advent of the shot clock in 1986-87.

Martinson started her business, Superior Dental Lab in Reno, in 1988 and also volunteered at softball and volleyball matches prior to opening her own company.

"We couldn't do everything we do without the help of volunteers, and that is why being able to them with the Silver and Blue Service Award is so special to our athletics department," senior associate athletics director Rhonda Lundin Bennett said. "Operating the shot clock at basketball games is a stressful and often thankless job, but we are lucky to have a dedicated professional like Julie."

Martinson and the six inductees in this year's Hall of Fame class will be recognized at the annual Hall of Fame Dinner on Friday, Sept. 15 at the Reno Ballroom. Cocktails will start at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner and the program at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets for the Hall of Fame Dinner are available for $60 and can be purchased by calling (775) 682-6901 or going online at NevadaWolfPack.com.
